Making a Bedroom a Mermaid's Coastal Retreat

by Cat Butrim

If quarantining during the COVID-19 pandemic has taught us anything, it's how important our physical surroundings can be to keeping our happiness and well-being intact. We've always said a living space should be a retreat from the outside world, and that has never been more true than recently. Unfortunately, quarantining also showed us how much our own living space has been neglected and kept from much-needed updates while we were busy beautifying other homes.

So, this spring and early summer, we took some time to rejuvenate a dated bedroom and turn it into the coastal mermaid lagoon I always dreamed of. Working closely with Adrianne of WPS Paint and Decorating Center on colors choices, I carefully curated every detail, from new furnishings, rugs, window treatments and decor accents (even finding the perfect Peter Pan-inspired wall art on Etsy!) to make this mermaid retreat a cozy space to share with my salty pirate love, Benny B.
